Heading for acts of desperation: No-wagering bonuses take Canadian iGaming by storm
29 October 2026
In a major shift, Canadian online casino players are increasingly favoring bonuses with low or no wagering requirements over the traditional big bonus offers with hidden catch. This trend is leaving its mark on everything from the bonuses casinos offer, to how players are engaging with those offers.
Casino review site Gamblizard published an unprecedented 60 reviews of new online casino brands in the first three months of 2026, calling it the largest concentration of new projects they had ever partnered with. According to Gamblizard, Canadian player engagement shifted sharply in the first quarter of 2026 towards casinos with high levels of transparency and fairness in their welcome bonuses. Bonuses with no-wagering requirements, also known as no-playthrough offers, were a major factor in this shift.
Gamblizard reported that casinos offering no-wagering bonuses received nearly three times more positive ratings than traditional high-wagering offers. At the nouveau category level, casinos that published clear terms and limits with their bonuses saw a 290% increase in visitors compared with last year.
But just how rare are these no-wagering offers? Bonus-interest site BestOffers.guru reported a mere 47 offers with zero wagering out of 343 offers that had a stated playthrough value. Of those 47, only two were full welcome offers. Meanwhile, none of the 51 free spin or no-deposit offers reviewed by BestOffers.guru were completely wager-free. The lightest offer your reporter found was Shuffle’s 1x playthrough bonus on its free chips.
So regional publisher CasinoAlpha cited some typical offer examples: JackBit Casino offers 100 free spins with zero wagering, while Lucky Liner is up to 375 spins. But the Match Bonus offers start to look more traditional. BetVictor offers 50 zero-wagering spins on selected games, while its 200% up to C$1200 match offer still carries 35x playthrough on bonus.
This may be why the newer category masters are also pushing the low-wagering bonus. Low-wagering offers balance player accessibility and odds with a value that still compels registrations. In that area, FanDuel, which is authorized to operate online casinos by the Ontario regulator, landed a 1x wagering offer for its bonus credit. FanDuel’s offer looked much more transparent than standard market wagering requirements at 30-40x, which CasinoMary listed across most other major Canadian operators.
Even the true no-wagering bonus comes with fine-print limits worth watching for. CasinoAlpha listed a classic no-wager bonus that tops out at C$500, with a five-times maximum withdrawal limit, and CasinoSh outlined game limits, use-by dates and payout verifications to watch for.
One thing is clear: Canadian gamers are not being swayed by simply bigger numbers. In Welcome Bonuses, No-Wagering Bonuses Top Engagement, and they are equally savvy in spotting and favoring casinos that favor transparency in their bonus options. iGaming publishers who respond with welcome bonuses that put player-friendliness as a first priority will be watching this trend closely.
